The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks (Book Review)

TITLE: The Best of Me

AUTHOR: Nicholas Sparks

GENRE: Romance

PUBLISHER: Grand Central Publishing

PUBLICATION DATE: October 11, 2011

The Best of Me is a romance genre novel based upon heart breaking yet touching tale of two lovers, Dawson Cole and Amanda Collier who fall in love with each other during their school days and somehow gets apart due to the wide difference in their family backgrounds.  Amanda Collier belongs to a high class rich family, having a respectable position in Oriental town while Dawson Cole rose in a family of Moonshiners and drug dealers and alcoholics. The story makes them meet once again after two decades in their common friend Tuck’s funeral.

Nicholas sparks has portrayed the characters of Dawson and Amanda carrying their lives separately in present phase. Dawson who is a loner figure and Amanda leads her life with her husband, Frank whom she marries later and her three kids. Meanwhile, both are individually haunted by ghosts in their worlds, which are memories of their past when they were together wholly in love. They are asked by their minds constantly what it would have been if they were together. And now when finally fate makes them stand together again, they are flabbergasted and find themselves engrossed in each other’s love.

The novel also compromises of two antagonists Abbe and Ted who are from Dawson’s family and want to kill him though they don’t count much to the story. Sparks has narrated the incidents in a very relatable manner as usually he always accomplishes in pulling our heartstrings. Most of the part of the book depicts their post separation time as compared to when they were young lovers. The story will surely take you to the dwindling moods between positive and negative ending, whether the lovers will spend their remaining life together or not. Dawson being the complex yet interesting character of the book may make you fall in love with him due to his love and genuineness towards everyone, and how he gives the best of him to Amanda despite the not so suitable circumstances.

The Best of Me is an enthralling novel on love and heartbreak and one should really pick if one is a Romance lover, and might be ready to shed some tears at the end of the book. It’s an easy read and emphasizes more significance on unconditional love that two hearts share forever though they are never destined to meet.  Once you start reading this book, it’s surely unputdownable.

  1. Now makes me remember that I met Nicholas Sparks in person during the book -signing of The best Of me. I queued up for two hours to get his authograph…. one of the best days ever.. But… because I want my friends to read what I love reading, I lent the book to one friend and one friend lent to another and so on…now, I can’t trace where the book has gone.. AllI have left is a photo and a memory.. From then, I never lent a book to anybody. It still breaks my heart ’til now.

  2. If Shreya Sharma gives 5/5 ratings then it’s a must read. 😍😍

I’ve read a book of Sparks and some or the other ways all the stories are almost like each other.

But I’m glad to read this one. 😍😘

    1. First of all, thank you for reading. 😄

And yes it’s a must read. And I agree that his works are sometimes, same in one way or the other. But none can’t beat his writing style.

Still, if you wanna read something different from him among his works, read “Safe Haven”. It’s beautiful and unique out of all his works. 💕💕
